Facilities and Equipment Maintenance System (FEMS) strict implementation
It has always been one of the objectives of Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College (SSVTC) to offer quality service to its clients not only through delivering excellent training programs, but also by providing frontline school facilities with proper care and upkeep. Being the only TESDA-administered school in Oriental Mindoro for two decades, SSVTC strives to have a comfortable and pleasing environment for its customers by establishing a well-designed and properly administered facility management system. It will help all school personnel in maintaining the good condition of school facilities and equipment. As what the TESDA Quality Policy states, “We measure our worth by the satisfaction of the customers we serve” and one way to satisfy them is to provide an environment that is conducive for learning.
In line with this aim and the implementation of Facilities and Equipment Maintenance System (FEMS) in all TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs), the faculty and staff spent two (2) consecutive days with lectures, demonstrations, inspections and role-plays to be able to gain more knowledge and skills on how to employ the system. They were guided well by three employees who attended the seminar in FEMS- Mr. Elveen M. Mondońedo (Vocational Instruction Supervisor), Mr. Michael L. Manalo (Maintenance Focal) and Ms. Carmela S. Fanoga (Supply Officer).
Two-year Bundled Qualifications to Begin on 2018
In compliance with the new TESDA mandate to offer two-year technical vocational courses in TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs), Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College allotted one whole day last January 16, 2017 for the bundling of qualifications.
Ms. Helen F. Fajutagana and Mr. Manolo F. Sotejo, facilitators, discussed the guidelines on how to bundle qualifications. They also shared some insights when they both attended the seminar as the institution will offer the courses on July 2018.
Trainers in their respective areas of expertise and sectors met up to discuss how they would combine and merge basic and common competencies in their qualifications and how they would schedule the teaching of core competencies along with electives to complete the two-year courses.
Moreover, trainers decided on the title of the bundled qualifications. They also prepared subject descriptions, session plans, and 5-year procurement plan during the seminar.
SSVTC Revisits APACC
Determined to finally push through the institution’s goal to have Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College enrolled for Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission, the whole faculty and staff revisited the guidelines as well as the quality manual on January 4, 2017 at the school’s Conference Room.
The school personnel spent one whole day reviewing the number of points that the school has to accumulate in order to reach bronze, silver and gold. Mr. Edgar Martin R. Salcedo, APACC Focal, facilitated the event. He shared when and how the school started aiming for the enrollment of APACC so that everybody would be motivated to work for the accreditation once more.
Furthermore, the chairpersons gathered their members and discussed how they would work on the criterion assigned to them. They were given enough time to talk about important matters regarding their tasks so they could begin right away.
It is also mandated by the Provincial Office of TESDA Oriental Mindoro as well as the Regional Office of TESDA MIMAROPA to register SSVTC for enrollment and accreditation this year.
In preparation for the accreditation and enrollment, some personnel will be going to APACC accredited TESDA Technology Institutions such as Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades to benchmark and gather information and insights about APACC.
